LANA'I CITY
Gill-net fishing registration set

Advertiser Staff

The Department of Land and Natural Resources will provide information on new lay gill-net rules from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at its office at 917 Fraser Ave.

Fishers can register their lay nets at that time by bringing a photo ID and a description of the net's material and dimensions; it is not necessary to bring the net.

Temporary tags will be issued to attach to the net and surface marker floats.

The new rules require that all gill nets used in lay-net fishing be registered and carry identification tags. Lay gill-net fishing is banned around Maui but not Lana'i.

For more information, call the Maui office at (808) 243-5294.
