Pedestrian safety pilot project to be unveiled

A pedestrian safety pilot program will be introduced by Mayor Mufi Hannemann today at the Kalihi Economic Summit at Farrington School.

The summit, focusing on revitalizing Kalihi, starts at 4 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m. It is one of a series of "Kalihi Pride" events the City is holding. Hannemann joined members of the City's YouthBuild program Saturday in a Kalihi Pride graffiti paintout.

Admission is free.

Presentations will be made on:

  • Economic Opportunities for Kalihi Businesses, by the Kalihi Business Association, Filipino Chamber of Commerce, Empower Oahu and A Day in Kalihi.

  • Upcoming Developments Bring More Opportunities for Kalihi, by the Pacific Resource Partnership, Kamehameha Schools and Urban Land Institute.

  • Strengthening Kalihi's Workforce, by Work Hawaii / Oahu Worklinks, Honolulu Community College, Building Industry Association and the Pacific Gateway Center.

  • Empowering Kalihi's Youth, by Farrington High School and Hope Through Music.
