A 22-year-old man was arrested this afternoon on suspicion of murder in connection with the disappearance of a female Japanese exchange student.

Police said Kirk Lankford was arrested this afternoon but has not been charged.

Police have not recovered the body of 21-year-old Masumi Watanabe and declined to say why Lankford was arrested. She was last seen April 12.

Police said Watanabe's glasses and blood were found in a truck belonging to Lankford that was impounded last week.

Police said they obtained a search warrant after several witnesses put the truck in the area where Watanabe disappeared. A search of the vehicle revealed the blood and glasses, police said.
