Father Damien celebration set for May 10 at statue

Blessed Father Damien will be celebrated at the statue of the renowned Kalaupapa priest at the State Capitol at 9:30 a.m. May 10, his feast day.Awards will be given to winners of an essay contest, and the first-place finisher will read the winning essay.
In attendance will be Bishop Larry Silva, the Rev. Chris Keahi and Sister Helene Wood; the latter two are provincial superiors of the Congregations of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. A Mass follows at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace.
