Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle has ordered state flags at state and county buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor of two former elected officials and legendary entertainer Don Ho who recently passed away.

State flags shall be flown at half-staff on Sunday in honor of former State Rep. Akira Sakima, who died on April 6. Sakima represented Kalihi Valley from 1959 to 1976. A memorial service will be held on April 29 at the Hawai'i Okinawa Center in Waipahu.

The next day, Monday, April 30, state flags shall be flown at half-staff in honor of former City Prosecutor Charles Marsland, who served two four-year terms from 1981 to 1988 as Honolulu's first elected prosecuting attorney. Marsland died on April 11. Funeral services will be held on Monday at Central Union Church.

On Saturday, May 5, the governor has ordered state flags to fly at half-staff in remembrance of entertainer Don Ho. An ocean-side memorial service is planned in Waikiki, where Ho's ashes will be scattered off-shore. More than 25,000 people are expected to attend.

The flag shall be flown from sunup to sundown on the respective day of interment for Sakima, Marsland and Ho.
