Maui restaurant Vino Kapalua to close June 11

Vino Kapalua on Maui, the original of a wine bar concept that was later imported to O'ahu, will close its doors June 11. Chef-restaurateur D. K. Kodama and partner, master sommelier Chuck Furuya, said in a press release that the area was slated for future development and they couldn't find another suitable location. There's also the fact that the major hotel in the area, the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, will be close for a six-month renovation, greatly reducing tourist traffic in the resort.

General manager Aaron Trujillo said events planned for Vino between now and June 11 will go on and chef de cuisine Keith Endo is working on a month-long celebratory farewell with "retro-specials" going back to the restaurant's opening.

The Sansei-Vino-Hiroshi group will soon open a new restaurant, Sansei Waikoloa, on the Big Island and Kodama said another Maui restaurant is not out of the question.
