'Lion King' early birds already lining up for tickets

Advertiser Staff

Early birds showed up this morning at Blaisdell Center for "The Lion King" ticket launch at 6 a.m. tomorrow, with a handful of people in line by early afternoon.

The numbers — and the lines — are expected to grow and lengthen as the box office opens for individual ticket sales for the Sept. 15 launch of the highly anticipated Disney-produced Broadway musical.

The box office launch will be an event in itself, with entertainment, free coffee, pastries, smoothies and newspapers, plus CDs for early birds and a "Lion King" T-shirt (one for each ticket order). Even the mayor will show up in the wee hours to put the seal of approval on the musical, one of his favorites.

The Blaisdell will have a three-hour lead on sales; at 9 a.m. tomorrow, tickets will be available at all Ticketmaster locations, including Times Supermarkets, and online at www.ticketmaster.com
