3 Marines killed in Iraq; U.S. death toll at 80 for April

Bloomberg News Service

Three U.S. Marines died "while conducting combat operations" in Iraq's western province of al-Anbar, the U.S. military said today in an e-mailed statement.

There is no mention of where they were deployed from.

At least 80 U.S. service members have died in Iraq this month. Al-Anbar and Baghdad are areas targeted in a security crack down involving up to 30,000 U.S. forces that are expected to be in theater and operational by June.

A total of 2,708 U.S. personnel have been killed in action in Iraq as of yesterday, according to the Department of Defense Web site. The number of deaths including those from other causes was 3,327. More than 24,000 have been wounded, 11,090 of them so seriously they couldn't return to duty.
