Neighbors say suspect is a churchgoing married man

Advertiser Staff

Two neighbors of Kirk Lankford, who was arrested in the disappearance of a 21-year-old woman from Japan, said they were shocked to hear about his arrest and described Lankford as quiet and pleasant.

They said he moved to his home on Hani Lane in Kalihi about a year and a half ago and lives there with his wife and baby boy. His wife is pregnant, they said.

"They're a churchgoing family," said one neighbor, who did not give her name.

Lankford was known for hosting bible studies at his home on Fridays and even took a neighbor's son to church with him. Lankford attended The Potter's House church, at 2320 S. King St., said another neighbor, who did not want to be identified.

"Pretty much overall, he was a nice guy," the neighbor said.

No one was at the church this afternoon and no one answered the phone.

No one answered the door at Lankford's home, which is at the end of a small, crowded lane, about 3:30 p.m. today.
