Lions pick Georgia Tech WR Johnson No. 2 overall

Advertiser Staff

Detroit did what it has been doing recently in the NFL Draft: select a wide receiver.

The Lions, picking No. 2 overall behind Oakland, selected Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson.

He is the fourth wide receiver in the past five years selected in the first round by the Lions.

Two of the three receivers — Charles Rogers of Michigan State and Mike Williams of USC — have been unsuccessful. Roy Williams of Texas has become a standout.

Johnson is considered one of the top prospects to enter the draft in the past 10 or so years.

He is 6-feet-5, 238 pounds, who runs a 4.39 40-yard dash and has a 42-inch vertical leap.
