Kirk Lankford, 22, who was arrested last Thursday in connection with the homicide investigation of missing Japanese visitor, Masumi Watanabe, was formally charged today with murdering the woman.

Lankford, who was arrested at his Kalihi home, was charged with murder in the 2nd degree in the disappearance and death of Watanabe, 21, who was last seen walking on Pupukea Road on April 12.

Lankford faces life in prison if found guilty.

Police believed Watanabe was abducted on the North Shore and murdered.

Although no body has been found, police have said forensic evidence they found in Lankford's impounded truck, including blood and glasses, implicate him.
