Motorcyclist critical after N. Shore crash

Advertiser Staff

A motorcycle rider was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition after colliding with a car in front of him in Waialua and crashing along the side of Wilikina Drive last night, police said.

A 1991 Honda Accord heading north on Wilikina Drive was in a line of four to five cars when it veered to the left to get around a vehicle making a turn onto Kaukonahua Road, police said.

The driver of the Honda, a 23-year-old North Shore man, crossed the double-sided lines and drove into the safety lanes, police said.

The 42-year-old male rider of the 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was in the back of the line of cars and was trying to pass them on the left when he also crossed the double-sided lines and rode into the safety lane, colliding into the back of the Honda, police said.

The motorcyclist lost control and crashed into the left shoulder of Wilikina Drive.

He was not wearing a helmet and suffered numerous injuries, police said.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the accident, police said.
