Small brushfire doused in Kauai's Kalalau Valley

Advertiser Staff

State firefighters on Kaua'i today extinguished a small brushfire near the end of the 11-mile hiking trail at the Kalalau Valley campground.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources was alerted to the fire by an Inter-Island Helicopter pilot flying a tour of the Na Pali Coast.

Cause of the fire was believed to be an incompletely extinguished campfire, said DLNR spokeswoman Deborah Ward.

Laura H. Thielen, DLNR interim chairwoman, asks that campers be extremely cautious and refrain from building open fires because of dry weather conditions.
