Cherry Blossom deadline extended to Aug. 15

The application deadline to be a contestant in the 56th annual Cherry Blossom Festival has been extended to Aug. 15.Applicants must be at least 50 percent Japanese, between the ages of 19 and 26, single and a Hawai'i resident.
The fee to apply is $25.
The festival, which officially begins in January, is one of the longest-running ethnic celebrations in the state. It allows young Japanese-American women the opportunity to learn more about their heritage.
The festival is put on by the Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce.
