Cherry Blossom deadline extended to Aug. 15

Advertiser Staff

The application deadline to be a contestant in the 56th annual Cherry Blossom Festival has been extended to Aug. 15.

Applicants must be at least 50 percent Japanese, between the ages of 19 and 26, single and a Hawai'i resident.

The fee to apply is $25.

The festival, which officially begins in January, is one of the longest-running ethnic celebrations in the state. It allows young Japanese-American women the opportunity to learn more about their heritage.

The festival is put on by the Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce.
