NFL: T.O. on field, but sits out both Cowboys' practices

SAN ANTONIO — Terrell Owens got another day to rest his sore hamstring today when he sat out both of the Dallas Cowboys' practices.

Coach Wade Phillips said Owens was sore — not injured.

"He doesn't have a hamstring problem," Phillips said.

Owens, wearing shades and a team cap, didn't respond to reporters while walking off the field after the afternoon practice. He also refused to comment after the morning session, when he signed autographs for fans without answering questions.

T.O. spent part of practice working out with trainers, even doing high leg kicks alongside Flozell Adams, the 6-foot-7, 340-pound offensive tackle who got a break from practice while recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery this summer. Adams participated in the afternoon workout.

At one point while standing on the sideline during part of the afternoon practice, Owens spoke briefly with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who likes that the 33-year-old receiver is getting a break.

"Frankly, we haven't been able to get Terrell to cut back," Jones said. "He's going to take his and everybody else's reps out there, so we've tried to work with him to try to get him to cut back. ... Terrell is having very impressive practices."

Owens was at practice in uniform yesterday, but was on the field without shoulder pads or a helmet after being told by Phillips to take it easy. T.O. wore shorts today.

The Cowboys were without both of their 1,000-yard receivers today. Terry Glenn had arthroscopic surgery to repair loose cartilage in his right knee and will be out up to two weeks.

"Those guys, they have skill, they have experience, they are unique," Jones said of Owens and Glenn. "Both of them recall can walk out there and play, and play good football."

It wasn't clear if Owens would take part in the Cowboys' only scheduled workout tomorrow afternoon, or be ready to play in the preseason opener the following Thursday. Glenn won't play against Indianapolis on Aug. 9.

Owens missed 14 straight workouts in training camp last season because of a hamstring problem, though an MRI showed no major problems.
