QUICK BITES
Foodland's new Tribeca Oven bread is real deal

 •  'Tis the season to be canning Hawaii fruits

Advertiser Staff

Foodland and Sack N Save stores have introduced a new brand of artisanal breads, Tribeca Oven. And it's great stuff. The breads are baked in small batches. The dough is allowed to rise slowly to develop character; the ingredients are natural, and no artificial preservatives are used. The loaves are hand-shaped, and only unbleached and unbromated flours are used.

The loaves are pre-baked, flash-frozen and shipped to Hawai'i, and yet they taste fresh-baked with great, mature flavor and chew. In Hawai'i, Tribeca is exclusive to Foodland at this time. Prices range from $2.40 for a baguette to $5.59 for an olive loaf. Information: www.tribecaoven.com.

COOKBOOK ALERT

'ISLAND PLATE' EXPECTED AUG. 13

Good news for those who have ordered my book, "The Island Plate, 150 Years of Recipes and Food Lore From The Honolulu Advertiser" (Island Heritage, 2006). We expect books to be in Aug. 13, earlier than expected. Our order fulfillment partner, e808.com, will begin shipping the books shortly thereafter. (Note that your credit-card statement will show a charge from www.e808.com [www.e808.com; P.O. Box 29238, Honolulu 96820], not The Advertiser; some customers have been confused by this.)

If you haven't already done so, you can order the books at www.honoluluadvertiser.com; go to the home page and look on the right side for the link.
