Interfaith peace event returns

Dr. Seiji Yamada will be the featured speaker at Monday's 20th annual Hiroshima/Nagasaki interfaith peace program.

Yamada, a physician born in Hiroshima, teaches at the University of Hawai'i's John A. Burns School of Medicine and has cared for survivors of nuclear testing in the Pacific. Event organizers said he will show slides and speak on the topic "of turning away from the path of nuclear weapons."

The free event will start at 7 p.m. at the Kahului Hongwanji Buddhist Mission, 291 Pu'unene Ave. Sponsors are Kahului Hongwanji and the Maui Interfaith-Community Peace Coalition.
