Top artists at Slack-Key Guitar Festival on Aug. 19

The creme dela creme of ki ho'alu artists will perform at the 25th anniversary of the Slack Key Guitar Festival, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 19, at Kapi'olani Park Bandstand.

A crowd of 5,000 is anticipated to hear performances by Ledward Ka'apana, Dennis and David Kamakahi, Ozzie Kotani, Pilioha, Kaukahi, Maunalua, Michael Ka'awa, Hapa, Kaoru Konoike, Donald Kaulia, Keale, Brittni Paiva, Danny Carvalo, Stephen Inglis, Dwight Kanae, LT Smooth, Paul Togioka, Pali, Cindy Combs, John Keawe and Ku'uipo Kumukahi, Haunani Apoliona and Ho'okena featuring Glen Smith.

Admission is free.

Organizer Milton Lau said the concert will stream live on the Internet, at Pali Ka'aihue's www.lava.net site.

When the first slack key guitar festival was held in 1982, the stellar attraction was Gabby "Pops" Pahinui and perhaps 1,000 attended.

In conjunction with the festival, the Third Annual Ledward Ka'apana Aloha Acoustic Workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15 to 18 at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. Participants may hone their skills under the instruction of Ledward Ka'apana, Bobby Moderow, David Kahiapo, Paul Togioka and Kaoru Konoike.
