UH's Hakala given WAC's top scholar-athlete award

Volleyball player Lauri Hakala of the University of Hawai'i was named the co-winner of the Western Athletic Conference Stan Bates Award as the conference's top male scholar-athlete.Idaho cross country and track and field athlete Melinda Ouwerkerk and San Jose State baseball player Corey Cabral were the other recipients of the award named in honor of Bates, a former WAC commissioner.
Hakala, a senior outside hitter from Kuusamo, Finland, is a German and communications major with a 3.72 GPA.
