Advertiser Staff
Hawai'i redemption centers accepted 636 million containers last fiscal year, which translates into a 68 percent redemption rate, according to the state Department of Health. If the annual redemption rate exceeds 70 percent, state law allows for the deposit beverage container fee to be increased by a half-cent to cover additional costs.
At 68 percent, the Hawai'i Deposit Beverage Container Program deposit and fee will continue at six cents (a five-cent deposit is returned to the consumer when the container is recycled and a non-refundable one-cent fee is for administrative costs).
