A birdie on the 18th hole — her lone birdie of the second round — wasn't enough for Michelle Wie to overcome a triple-bogey en route to a 7-over par 80 at the Women's British Open at the Old Course at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club in St. Andrews, Scotland.

Wie, a 17-year-old from Honolulu, finished at 7-over 153, 13 strokes behind Lorena Ochoa, who shot a 73. The projected cut is 5-over par. (Play was suspended by darkness with three golfers remaining on the course.)

"It's a disappointment because I didn't play as well as I wanted to," Wie said. "I do feel a lot stronger. I'm hitting a lot of shots that I've never really hit before, so that's a positive."

Wie never got it going today, opening her second round with a bogey on the first hole and finishing the front nine with two more bogeys and a 3-over par 39.

She bogeyed the 10th hole, but her score ballooned at the 13th when she recorded a triple-bogey 7. She dropped to 8-over with another bogey on 14 before finishing with three straight pars and a birdie.

The ending is reminiscent of her play at last week's Evian Masters, where Wie fired a 1-under-par round to snap a string of 24 consecutive rounds over par and then struggled in the final round to finish second to last at 10-over par.
