Man dies after being pulled from waters near Hale Koa

A 79-year-old man pulled from waters near Fort DeRussy Beach, fronting the Hale Koa Hotel, was transported to Straub Medical Center this morning in critical condition.He was later declared dead at the hospital, said Bryan Cheplic, department spokesman for Honolulu Emergency Services.Emergency responders received a call for assistance at 11:03 a.m., Cheplic said.
The Fort DeRussy Armed Forces Recreation Center's Hale Koa is a facility for members of the military.
