NextDoor celebrates 2nd anniversary with 4 events

DJ Fred Everything will be part of NextDoor's 2nd anniversary celebration on Aug. 10

Following hot on the heels of pioneering thirtyninehotel, NextDoor opened on Hotel Street in 2005, as the home of Cinema Paradise Island Independent Film Festival and the premier venue for visiting MCs, DJs and performers such as Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Herc, ZTrip, King Britt, Andy Rourke.

For its three-night Anniversary Weekend celebration starting Aug. 9, NextDoor will shower guests with giveaways and a 'Live at Next Door' CD compilation, and VIP cocktail receptions will be held every night.

The schedule:

10 p.m.-2 a.m. Aug. 9: Fashion shows by from Cut N Sewn (http://www.myspace.com/danweaverfashion). A live feed of the shows will be shown on the movie screen. Music will be

provided by Nocturnal Sound Crew's DJ Eskae and

KTUH DJs Davie Shindig from Friday's "Party Shuffle" show and Cookie Head Jenkins from "Solid State Deluxe," also broadcast on Fridays.

Tickets: $10. (The club will be closed to the public 9-10 p.m. for a private party.)

7 p.m.-2 a.m. Aug. 10: Pacific Standard Presents Fred Everything

Fridays means house music all night long at NextDoor. NextDoor resident DJ Mr. Nick kicks off the night downtempo style. From 9 to 10:30 p.m. VIP patrons can enjoy

hosted Absolut Pear-Tini's. Then Om Records' Fred Everything from Canada plays his remixes of enticing house beats. Aerialist Samadhi from Maui will give an acrobatic performance. L.A.'s Rich Kim will present a slide show of NextDoor capers and partiers over the past two years.

7-10:30 p.m. Aug. 11: Showdown in Chinatown

This month's installment of the film competition organized by Torry Tukuafu includes a wine tasting and catered

hors d'oeuvres in the upstairs lounge. Films will be shown from 7-10:30 p.m.

Tickets: $10; VIP tickets including wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres $25

10:30 p.m.-2 a.m. Aug. 11: Favela Funk

'Opening DJ Eskae plays Brazillian upbeat breaks, and

electro-dance. And returning for the night is Washington D.C. native and Fort Knox Five member Rex Riddem with his Latin Funk. In the spirit of the Favela Funk parties, Brazil's national potion — cachaca cocktails — will be served all night. Feathers, sequins, glitter, and dance shoes are recommended.
