A rock musical comedy of love and betrayal makes its way to the Doris Duke Theatre in "Hedwig and The Angry Inch." It's the tale of a transgendered man — his rise from poverty to stardom and twists of fate along the way. Hedwig is portrayed by local musician Otto, who first staged the show five years ago. His band The 86 List performs as Hedwig's band, The Angry Inch.

Hum along to "Cupid's Chokehold" and "Clothes Off" as the schoolboy goofballs aka Gym Class Heroes, right, perform at Pipeline Cafe. Travis, Matt, Eric and Disashi are currently on tour with Gwen Stefani and are scheduled to tour with Fall Out Boy and Plain White T's some time in the fall. The Heroes' tunes can be heard on discs "For the Kids," "The Papercut Chronicles" and "As Cruel as School Children." Creed Chameleon is the opening act.

Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Common brings his band and DJ Dummy to Pipeline Cafe to promote his new album "Finding Forever." Common has appeared in several films, too, including "Brown Sugar," "Smokin' Aces" and "American Gangster." Discs include "Can I Borrow a Dollar?" "Like Water for Chocolate" and "Be." For 18 and older.

DANCE: AUG. 17-18

Honolulu-based dance theater company Monkey Waterfall performs "Shrines to Paradise," an exploration of why people travel and how residents and tourists connect and disconnect. The production takes the audience behind the masks, image and glitz that is associated with Hawai'i, with Honolulu Hale transformed into a carnival-like setting with dance, music, theater and storytelling.

Guerilla Union's "Rock the Bells" tour stops in Honolulu with hip-hop heavy-hitters Wu-Tang Clan, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and MC Supernatural. Wu-Tang Clan has not been seen in Honolulu since 1999 and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony will perform material off its latest album "Strength & Loyalty." Freestlye champion MC Supernatural hosts.

Hard Rock Cafe Honolulu turns 20, and it's ready to celebrate with an extravaganza that includes indoor and outdoor concerts, food and festivities as a benefit for Kokua Hawai'i Foundation, the nonprofit environmental education organization founded by Jack Johnson. Barrington Levy, Natural Vibrations, Ooklah the Moc, Ten Feet and Go Jimmy Go, right, will take the stage. Fans will have the chance to win autographed Gibson guitars and a surfboard signed by Kekoa Cazimero.

It's time to play "The Pajama Game," right, a musical with favorites such as "Hey There, You with the Stars in Your Eyes," the sultry "Hernando's Hideaway" and "Steam Heat." The story highlights labor troubles in the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory as well as the love story between Babe, the head of the complaint committee, and Sid, the new factory superintendent. The play is directed by Ron Bright.
