Baseball: Rangers put Loe on disabled list

Associated Press

TORONTO — Texas Rangers right-hander Kameron Loe was placed on the 15-day disabled list, and Willie Eyre will start in his place today against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Eyre is 3-3 with a 3.88 ERA. Right-hander Mike Wood was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma, but will get the day off after throwing 81 pitches in eight innings in a victory over Fresno on Wednesday. He gave up three runs and five hits.

Wood was 9-3 with a 3.23 ERA in Triple-A. He has pitched in five games for Texas this season, going 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA.

Loe is 5-9 with a 5.80 ERA in 24 games this season, including 19 starts. He said the left side of his lower back became stiff while he was throwing a bullpen session between starts earlier this week.

"Towards the end of my bullpen, I felt my back getting a little tight," Loe said yesterday. "I threw one more pitch, and it just locked up on me.

Loe said he still felt "a little uncomfortable" yesterday, but hoped to throw from flat ground today. He is expected to miss two starts.

"I've battled this kind of stuff before," Loe said. "It usually clears up in two to three days. This one is going to take a little longer. Being a tall guy, I have lower-back issues every once in a while. I've never had to miss a start before because of it. This one really got me, so they're going to put me on the DL."
