Woman found shot to death in King Street apartment

Advertiser Staff

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 32-year-old woman, who was found shot in the chest today at her King Street apartment.

The woman was found dead by her roommate about 8 a.m. today, police said. It is unclear when the woman died, but police said they believe it was between 9:30 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. this morning.

The woman was pronounced dead in her apartment at 8:30 a.m.

Neighbors said they did not hear any disturbance or gunshots late Friday or early today coming from the second-floor unit at 2920 S. King St.

But they pointed out the noise could have been drowned out by cars whizzing by on the nearby H-1 Freeway. Several also said they did not know the woman or whether she lived there full-time.

"I didn't hear anything. I was surprised when I heard the news," said 53-year-old Khin Nyunot, who has lived at the apartment building for two years.

Roger Wilcox, who also lives in the building, said he sometimes gets up at night when he hears loud noises so that he can make sure his car is safe.

He heard nothing out of the ordinary.

Police said they do not suspect the woman's roommate in the death. Neighbors were told he saw the woman on the couch early Saturday and assumed she was sleeping. It was only later in the morning when he realized the woman was shot and called police.

Tonight police are calling the case an unattended death, and have not classified it as a homicide. They said that could change as they get more details on the case. Police also said they were continuing to interview neighbors and others.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Criminal Investigation Division at 529-3115.
