Kauai mayor proposes ban on agricultural subdivisions

LIHU'E — Kaua'i Mayor Bryan Baptiste sent a bill to the County Planning Commission Friday calling for a temporary moratorium on the creation of new agricultural subdivisions on Kaua'i.Baptiste said the intent of the bill is to preserve and protect existing agricultural lands while the County Council and Planning Department work toward developing new legislation and regulations to that end.
Subdivisions intended solely for the development of affordable housing would be exempted from the moratorium.
