Hawaiian Electric Co. estimates power to an area of Waikiki around Ena Road will be restored by 11 p.m.

A trolley with no passengers aboard crashed into a utility pole this morning, damaging the pole and causing a power failure to the immediate area, police said.

Power to street lights is expected to be restored by 9:30 p.m., HECO spokesman Peter Rosegg said.

The driver of the trolley was not injured in the 10:10 a.m. accident. No other information was available on the driver.

Police were still investigating the accident this afternoon and hadn't determined a cause.

The crash happened at 469 Ena Road near the intersection with Kalakaua Avenue. The utlity pole was sheared at the bottom.

No estimate was available on how many customers were affected by the outage, but it was limited to the immediate area, which included businesses and some condominiums.
