Firefighters snuff 2 kitchen fires in Waialae building

Advertiser Staff

Fire officials extinguished two small kitchen fires in a Wai'alae Avenue apartment building this afternoon, according to Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig.

The first of two companies dispatched to the 2847 Wai'alae Ave. unit found a boiling pot of eggs on the stove in an apartment, prompting officials to call off the second company's arrival.

Firefighters from the first company then discovered smoke coming from a unit on the floor below. Seelig said the smoke came from a microwave fire.

Firefighters found no one inside either apartment. Both fires were extinguished at about 1:40 this afternoon.

No one was injured or had to be evacuated.
