'Kahoolawe Future' lecture tomorrow at UH Manoa

Advertiser Staff

Sol P. Kaho'ohalahala, executive director of the Kaho'olawe Island Reserve Commission, will tomorrow present a Sakamaki series lecture titled "Kaho'olawe Future" at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.

After more than 50 years of use by the U.S. military as a bombing target, the island of Kaho'olawe began the process of reverting to state stewardship in 1994, when the U.S. Navy signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the island's cleanup, restoration, access, and transfer of control.

The Kaho'olawe Island Reserve Commission now represents the state in all matters pertaining to the island.

The lecture is set for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Krauss Hall's Yukiyoshi Room
