Rainbow Wahine release schedule, Smith scores in loss

The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team announced its schedule for the upcoming 2007-08 season today, with NCAA Tournament participant Washington tabbed as the season opener.

The Rainbow Wahine's 29-game schedule begins Nov. 16 in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic against Washington. Also in the round-robin tournament are UC Davis and Northern Arizona.

In the Rainbow Wahine Classic, scheduled for Nov. 23-25, are Hartford, Kentucky, Lipscomb, Minnesota, Texas, UAB and Virginia.

Hawai'i, 15-14 overall and 9-7 in the Western Athletic Conference last year, will play five tournaments before conference play. Hawai'i will travel to the USC Tournament in Los Angeles, scheduled for Dec. 20-21.

Hawai'i opens the WAC season on Jan. 9, 2008, at Utah State, the first of four straight WAC road games.

Also today, Rainbow Wahine senior Tanya Smith scored two points and grabbed three rebounds for Australia at the World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand. Brazil defeated Australia 58-53.
