Superferry sets Kauai, Maui previews

KAHULUI, Maui — Hawai'i Superferry will hold a community preview aboard the Alakai from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Pier 2 ferry terminal at Kahului Harbor.

Because of security, those planning to attend must register everyone in their party in advance of the event via the company's Web site, www.HawaiiSuperferry.com. Space is limited. Adults must bring photo identification and children must be accompanied by an adult.

No parking will be available at the pier. A free shuttle between the harbor and the Ka'ahumanu Avenue side of Maui Community College will operate every 15 minutes from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Alakai is undergoing completion of crew and staff training, route familiarization, and final Coast Guard certification in preparation for the start of service later this month. A firm start date has not been announced, although reservations are being taken for travel starting Sept. 5.

A community preview on Kaua'i has been scheduled for Aug. 19, with a Big Island event date to be announced.

The interisland ferry service provide daily service between Maui and O'ahu and service Sunday through Friday between Kaua'i and O'ahu.
