Waipio little leaguers lose, but still can advance

Advertiser Staff

Arizona defeated Waipio, 7-4, today, damaging the O'ahu team's chances of advancing out of pool play and into the semifinals of the Little League West Regional Tournament in San Bernardino, Calif.

The tournament is for 11- and 12-year-olds. This age group produced the West Oahu World Series Champions in 2005 and is the oldest organization in youth baseball, starting in 1939 and holding a World Series in 1947.

Arizona finished 4-0 in pool play. Waipio finished 1-3. Waipio's fate depends on the result of the Southern California-Northern California game that will be played later today. Waipio gets in if Northern California loses.

In today's game, Iolana Akau homered for Waipio.
