Man, arrested in Kailua, charged with resisting arrest

Advertiser Staff

A 33-year-old Honokai Hale man, forcibly subdued by police last night in Kailua, has been charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest while being investigated for allegedly ramming his ex-girlfriend's car.

Darrell Diamond Ortiz was arrested at 6:30 p.m. at Kailua Road and Ulukahiki Street. His bail on the resisting arrest charge is $500, but Ortiz also has an outstanding $750 warrant.

According to police, the 5-feet-10, 220-pound Ortiz allegedly pursued his former girlfriend in his car and damaged her vehicle.

The woman, 33, and two teenage children, ages 14 and 13, in her car were treated for minor injuries.

Police said they had to use chemical spray and a Taser electric stun weapon to arrest Ortiz, who has six prior convictions.

A felony first-degree criminal property damage charge is pending against Ortiz.
