QUICK BITES
Satura Cakes opens at Royal Hawaiian

 •  Red, white and greens of Italy

Advertiser Staff

Satura Cakes, the California-based chain of bakery/sidewalk cafes that's already at Ward Center, has opened in Building B at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, which is just emerging from its multimillion-dollar renovation project. Founded by a Japanese entrepreneur, Satura's specialty is cheesecake, but the cafe also offers other confections, including pineapple shortcake and salty chocolate cookies, left, as well as coffee and beverages, such as guava berry soda.

The shopping center's three anchor restaurants — Suntory, Beijing Chinese Seafood Restaurant and Okonomiyaki Chibo — have reopened.

And Dixie Grill Bar-b-que & Crab Shack, Ed Wary's Southern-inspired restaurant at 404 Ward Ave., has closed for renovation and a menu/concept upate. It will reopen in the fall.

THAT'S THE RUB

COFFEE, SPICE AND EVERYTHING NICE FOR A GOOD CAUSE

In a continuing effort to combine its mission (teaching students to cook as well as to market food in the real world) with fundraising efforts, Maui Community College has released a new product: Maui Coffee Spice Rub, made from a blend of Maui-grown coffee and zingy Turkish Aleppo pepper.

Instructors and students are excited that Art Smith, personal chef of part-time Maui resident Oprah Winfrey, will use the rub in a dish he's making for an upcoming Easter Seals fundraiser. The rub is available at the community college's Pa'ina Food Court and at various Maui food shops. Information: 808-984-3225, www.mauiculinary.com/academy.
