WAIKIKI
Keep a lookout for box jellyfish

Advertiser Staff

A box jellyfish advisory remains in effect today through Friday.

Last month more than 400 box jellyfish were found in Waikiki during the two-day influx, with 55 people getting stung.

About 700 washed up along the Wai'anae Coast — a rare occurrence — with 30 people getting stung.

Box jellyfish wash ashore at night during their spawning, which takes place eight to 10 days after the full moon.

Anyone who is stung and experiences difficulty breathing, muscle cramps or spasms or persistent pain should seek medical help.
