NextDoor birthday parties continue through weekend

NextDoor's celebration of its second birthday continues tonight and through the weekend with fashion shows, film competitions and guest DJs.

The downtown concert hall and cinema lounge's line-up tonight features a fashion show from Cut N Sewn, with turntablists Eskae, Davie Shindig and Cookie Head Jenkins. The show starts at 10 p.m.; entry is $10.

On Friday, downtempo house and easy listening jazz spins from resident DJ Mr. Nick will be followed with sets by guest DJ Fred Everything. Doors open at 7 p.m.; entry is $15.

Saturday evening celebrations start early with NextDoor's Showdown in Chinatown monthly independent film competition. Films will be shown from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Entry is $10 general, $25 for upstairs lounge views with wine tasting and pupu.

Late night, Eskae kicks off South American-flavored spins at Favela Funk with Brazillian breaks and electro-dance. DJ Rex Riddem of Fort Knox Five arrives late evening with Latin funk spins. Cocktails infused with Brazillian sugar cane spirit cachaca will be featured at the bar all night. Favela Funk starts at 10:30 p.m.; entry is $10.
