Maui firefighters declare brushfire in Kula contained

A Maui brushfire that burned 16 acres near Mauna Place off Coop Road at the University of Hawai'i Agriculture Research Station in Kula was declared contained at 5 p.m. today, county officials said.

The fire burned mostly pasture land and no injuries were reported, according to a news release.

Three engine companies, a water tanker and two Maui Fire Department helicopters fought the fire, which started at 2:16 p.m.
