Atherton to host pianist from Evasive Species

Pianist Shawn Livingston Moseley will make his debut at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 25 in Hawaii Public Radio's Atherton Performing Arts Studio, at 738 Kaheka St.

Moseley fronts the group Evasive Species, performing original music, A demonstrator of the Therapeutic Harp by Elizabeth Cher Christenson of Sounding Joy Music Therapy also is scheduled.

Moseley describes Evasive Species as "the next evolution of music in Hawai'i," since the group blends ki ho'alu, Hawaiian slack key guitar, with a modern jazz feel of urban hip-hop.

Besides keyboarder Moseley, the Species includes Navid Najafi,vocals; Stephen Inglis, vocals and slack key guitar; Jon Hawes, upright bass; and Steve Howells, drums and electronica.

Tickets: $20 general, $17.50 HPR members and $10 students with ID.
