Hawaiian Airlines said its load factor fell slightly in July compared with the same month a year earlier, but the total number of passengers flown rose sharply.

The state's largest carrier said its airplanes were 87.4 percent full in July compared with 89.3 percent full in July 2006.

Hawaiian flew a total of 656,044 passengers on its interisland and transpacific flights last month, up 14.8 percent from the year-earlier period.

Year-to-date, the company said it has served more than 4.1 million passengers, up 15.4 percent from the same period last year.
