Power back up in Kaka'ako

Advertiser Staff

About 200 Hawaiian Electric Co. customers in the Kaka'ako area were without electricity for 45 minutes tonight following a short circuit in a transmisison line.

The short circuit, at 9:11 p.m., initially affected about 4,000 customers, but virtually all regained power within seconds when they were automatically transferred to other lines, HECO spokeswoman Janet Crawford said.

But one transformer at the Kaka'ako substation is not equipped with automatic rerouting, leaving about 200 customers in the dark until 9:56 p.m.
