Nimitz lane closures begin Sunday night

Advertiser Staff

Crews will close multiple lanes in both directions on Nimitz Highway starting Sunday night as part of a project to find old petroleum pipelines.

The work will run from 8:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m., Sunday through Aug. 17. Crews will close one or more lanes in both directions between Kukahi and Alakawa streets.

The state Health Department is conducting the survey to find unused pipelines between Nu'uanu Stream and Kapalama Canal.

Crews will drain residual oil from the lines to make sure it does not end up in the water.

Drivers are advised to take alternate routes during the closure or allow for extra travel time.
