Pacific Beach Hotel changes management companies

Advertiser Staff

The owner of the Pacific Beach Hotel announced today that it is ending its contract with an affiliate of Outrigger Hotels to manage the Waikiki hotel.

Starting Dec. 1, the 837-room hotel will be managed by Pacific Beach Corp., an affiliate of hotel owner HTH Corp. In January, HTH Corp. turned over management duties to PBH Management LLC, an affiliate of Outrigger Hotels.

The announcement this morning came suddenly and without warning. The hotel's 535 employees were being called into meetings with management today to inform them of the change.

PBH Management has filed a notice with the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations that all employees will be terminated on Dec. 1, but it was not known how many of the workers will be retained by Pacific Beach Corp.

The management change comes during labor unrest at the 37-year-old hotel. Three years ago, hotel workers voted to be represented by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 142, but the union and management have yet to come to a contract agreement.

The two sides have reached tentative agreements on several issues, but it was not immediately clear whether Pacific Beach Corp. will be required to honor those agreements.
