UH's Houston named preseason WAC Player of the Year

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team placed four players on the preseason All-Western Athletic Conference team, including player of the year Jamie Houston.

Senior middle blockers Kari Gregory and Juliana Sanders also were picked to the team and left-side hitter Tara Hittle joined them.

Hittle, a junior, missed all but five matches last season because of an ankle injury and received a medical hardship.

Houston, a left-side hitter, earned third team All-American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and All-WAC first team honors in 2006.

Gregory and Sanders also were first team all-WAC.

The Rainbow Wahine finished 29-6 last year, losing to UCLA in the Honolulu regional final at the Stan Sheriff Center.
