Oahu man with 99 tax allowances faces evasion charges

Advertiser Staff

An O'ahu man who allegedly claimed 99 "allowances" during a six-year period on state tax forms was arrested Thursday on six counts of willful failure to file a state income tax return for the years 2000 through 2005.

Clifford K. Parker also faces six counts of attempting to evade state income taxes for the years 2000 through 2005.

State Department of Taxation officials said that because Parker claimed 99 "allowances," his employer, Meadow Gold Dairies, did not withhold any state income taxes from his paychecks.

Willful failure to file a return is a misdemeanor and punishable by up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $25,000 for each count.

Attempting to evade the tax is a class C felony, punishable by a fine of up to $100,000 and up to five years in prison for each count.

Parker is scheduled to be arraigned Monday before Circuit Judge Derrick Chan.
