Arrested Waipahu man had loaded AK-47, police say

Police today arrested a 23-year-old man in Waipahu who was allegedly armed with a loaded AK-47 assault rifle.

The man, who lives on Pupu'ole Street in Waipahu, went to an apartment complex at 94-207 Waipahu St. at about 9 a.m. looking for two men.

The suspect fired a shot in the air, police said.

Police arrested the gunman without incident at 9:04 a.m.

He was booked on one count of first-degree terroristic threatening, two counts of first-degree reckless endangering, and possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Police said the assault rife had an altered magazine to hold more more than 30 rounds.
