Memorial event set for UH Asian Theatre professor

Roger Long passed away on April 30 after a long illness. He was 68. Long was an eminent director and actor whose lifelong passion was Indonesian wayang kulit Javanese shadow puppetry. Long produced rarely performed Indonesian and Balinese dramas at Kennedy Theatre and earned Po'okela awards for his direction of American dramas, including "Wit" and "Angels in America, Part 1" at Manoa Valley Theatre.
The memorial service will be held 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at Kennedy Theatre.
The celebration will be a reflection of Roger's life joyous, irreverent, creative and, at times, serious, according to a UH news release. Friends will share their memories of him in a series of brief remembrances.
