KAPOLEI
Wastewater to be discussed

Advertiser Staff

The city will hold a community meeting in Kapolei on Aug. 22 to discuss Honolulu's wastewater treatment system and why the Environmental Protection Agency is being asked to allow the city to continue operating its two treatment plants at Sand Island and Honouliuli without full secondary treatment requirements under waivers.

The meeting will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Kapolei Hale.

The EPA has informed the the city of a tentative denial of the waiver for Honouliuli in March, and is expected to take similar action for Sand Island in the fall. The EPA has extended the public comment period for the waiver until Aug. 27.
