'John From Cincinatti' wipes out at HBO

HBO took little time in deciding to cancel David Milch's "surf noir" drama "John From Cincinnati," letting the ax fall a day after the show's season finale, which aired Sunday. The cryptic, metaphysically inclined series, which divided critics and viewers alike, won't be back for a second season.

"John From Cincinnati" starred Bruce Greenwood as the patriarch of a Southern California surfing family whose lives were upended with the arrival of the title character (Austin Nichols). The show also featured Rebecca De Mornay, Brian Van Holt, Ed O'Neill, Keala Kennelly, Luke Perry, Greyson Fletcher, Matt Winston Willie Garson and Luis Guzman.

It started off with fairly solid ratings following the finale of "The Sopranos" in June, but the audience tailed off in subsequent weeks.

The parting shot for the series showed Hawai'i surfer Keala Kennelly, who had a recurring role, riding the waves on a California beach.
