Cost-U-less earnings up sharply in second quarter

Discount retailer Cost-U-Less Inc. said today that its earnings were up 27.2 percent during the second quarter 2007 compared with the same period a year ago.The Bellevue, Wash.-based company, which operates two retail outlets in Hawai'i, said it earned $700,000, or 16 cents per share, during the three months ending July l. That was up from the year-earlier quarter's net of $550,000, or 11 cents per share.
The company said overall sales rose 3.2 percent to $55.3 million while comparable same-store sales increased by 3.3 percent.
